The overall purpose of the Worship and Spiritual Life Committee is to plan and provide for the spiritual development of members of the parish through liturgical celebrations, prayer experiences, and programs for spiritual enrichment. This committee plans periodic ecumenical services. It works to provide a climate in which young people may discern their Christian vocations.
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

Each First Friday of the month we have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Adoration begins after 9:00am Mass and continues all day closing with Benediction at 6:45pm; Mass at 7:00pm. At 3pm the Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy are recited for vocations and our military.

Utilizing sewing skills and creativity, this group takes care of the arts and environment for liturgical celebrations.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Children’s Liturgy of the Word gives 1st through 4th grade children an opportunity to hear the Sunday readings on a level they can understand. There is no registration required. Adult volunteers are needed to lead worship with the children.
Cursillo

An international movement of dynamic spiritual growth within the Church. A weekend retreat begins the journey enabling the participants to deepen their own Catholic faith experience and give each person the opportunity to develop a close and lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ. After the Cursillo weekend members meet in small groups on a weekly basis for prayer reflection and further spiritual growth.
Discipleship
Discipleship is our response to God's call. As His disciples, we work to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. We strive to be more like Christ by developing our relationship with Him through prayer and service. We work to live out our call to holiness in our day to day life with our families, our coworkers, in our communities and in the world.

The Liturgy Team works with the clergy to plan and execute all the regular, special and seasonal Liturgies. The Team also coordinates the training and recruiting of all liturgical ministers.
Liturgy Team: Altar Servers

Altar Servers are members of the assembly who assist the priest during the Eucharist and other liturgical ceremonies so the liturgy can be conducted with grace and reverence. They ensure that all the requisites for the celebration are available at the appropriate time. Boys and girls aspiring to be servers must be in the 5th grade or older. They must be baptized and have received First Holy Communion. Candidates receive mandatory training; service is scheduled on a rotating basis.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist with the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ during Mass. In a deeper sense, these ministers are called from the community of those gathered to praise the Lord to “feed the Body of Christ to the Body of Christ.” Some ministers take communion to the sick in hospitals, nursing homes, assisted-living facilities, or at home; please see our Ministers of Care ministry for more information. Participation is open to fully initiated, practicing Catholics. Ministers are assigned to the Mass time of their choice. New and continuing ministers receive mandatory spiritual and practical training each fall and periodically throughout the year so they may fulfill their ministry with knowledge and reverence.

Ministers of hospitality (ushers) welcome parishioners and visitors to St. Philip at every Mass. They provide assistance in seating, collecting and taking up the gifts, directing the communion procession and handing out bulletins. They answer questions about the church (restroom locations, phones, lost and found), provide assistance in emergency situations, and help clean up the church for the next Mass. New and continuing ministers receive mandatory spiritual and practical training each fall and periodically throughout the year.

Lectors proclaim the Word of the Lord to the assembly at Mass and other liturgies. If you have a love for God’s word, and the willingness to learn to proclaim it effectively, please consider volunteering for this ministry. Lectors are assigned to the Mass times of their choosing. Candidates must be 11th grade or older. Mandatory training occurs in the fall for both new and continuing lectors with periodic refresher classes throughout the year.

Singers and instrumentalists lead the congregation in song to enhance the liturgy at the 8:30am Mass. If you can carry a tune and can attend most of the rehearsals please join us in singing praise to the Lord. Rehearsals are held every week from September through June on Wednesdays from 7-8:30pm.

Singers and instrumentalists lead the congregation in song to enhance the liturgy at the 11:00 Mass. Rehearsals are held prior to Mass. Students in grades 9 through 12 are encouraged to participate in this choir.
Music Ministry: Children's Choir

St. Philip's Children's Choir is a liturgical choir for children in second through eighth grade. Rehearsals are on Tuesday afternoon from 4:30-5:30pm. The children sing traditional Catholic and contemporary hymns. Through involvement in this ministry children increase their participation in and awareness of their Catholic faith. Additional rehearsals are scheduled for children who cantor and read at the Mass. The children's choir sings at the Masses throughout the year, and special emphasis is given to understanding the Mass and developing a love for the Liturgy.

Prayer Blanket Ministry

This ministry creates blankets during which a prayer is said at each step of its completion. These blankets are for anyone experiencing physical or emotional distress or just needs to feel the gift of love. They are for any age. They are not for birthdays or other celebrations. There is no cost for these blankets, however, donations will always be welcome. If you have time to rinse, cut, sew or iron fabric you would be a qualified volunteer.

The prayer partners remember in prayer all those asking for prayers for themselves, family, friends or for any situation needing prayer. We email requests sent out daily or as frequently and urgently as necessary. This keeps all prayer warriors in touch with all those needing our concern and support daily.
Serra Club

The purpose of this ministry is to encourage men and women to inspire to the priesthood and religious life. Catholic laypersons try to fulfill their own vocations to service through several functions throughout the year. Membership is open to all adults who wish to affirm and support seminarians and those in the ordained and vowed ministries.
