INSTRUCTION/DAILY SCHEDULE
Our school day will include both Montessori and traditional styles of learning. The
children will have the opportunity to work in Practical Life, Cultural/Art, Language Arts,
Math, Sensorial, and Catechesis areas each day. They will have weekly lessons for
Catechesis, music, and craft projects; and will meet periodically for “Time with Father”
for religious education or for children’s mass. We will also have large group time,
center play, and a snack each day.
INSTRUCTION:
ATRIUM: CATECHESIS/ACADEMIC
St. Philip Learning Center calls its classrooms “The Atrium”. This is a calm place of
learning and working for the children, and a place for them to grow closer to God. The
Atrium includes all 4 preschool classrooms, and is separated into different areas of
learning. These areas are practical life, cultural/art, language arts, math, sensorial, and
catechesis. Children in St Philip Learning Center will rotate within the Atrium during the
school day.
CATECHESIS:
St Philip Learning Center will follow lessons from the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
program, a Catholic Montessori-based program that has been adopted by the Diocese of
Nashville and is currently in use by the preschool CCD classes at St. Philip Church.
Each session will also meet for Religious Education at times with Fr. Bala or Fr. Tran in
the church, chapel, or for children’s Mass.
LARGE GROUP TIME
Group times will include songs, calendar, weather, Author studies and story time, Saint
of the Month lessons, etc. This will also include a weekly craft or art lesson and is
centered on a monthly theme, either religious or secular.
CENTERS
Specific areas in the room designated for creative play, including dramatic play, blocks,
small manipulatives, art, and large motor play.
CALENDAR
St. Philip Learning Center will follow the Williamson County Schools Calendar. School
will begin the Tuesday after Labor Day, and continue until the 3rd week in May. St.
Philip Learning Center will follow WCS for snow days and holidays.
CLASSROOM SETUP
St. Philip Learning Center depends on the generosity of parish and community families to
help stock our classrooms! If you have gently used toys, games, or classroom supplies
that you would like to donate to our program, please bring them by the Learning Center
office, located in Room 100 of the Education Building.
