"Dear young people, proclaiming the Word of God is not the responsibility of priests or religious alone, but it is yours too.  You must have the courage to speak about Christ in your families and in places where you study, work or recreate....There are places and circumstances where you alone can bring the seed of God's Word."

~ Blessed JPII, World Youth Day VII

Welcome to the St. Philip Learning Center! We are so excited to have your interest in our program
and look forward to working with your family. It is an honor to work in such an important and

MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of St. Philip Learning Center is to provide a positive, nurturing environment

where our students will grow in social, intellectual, and spiritual development while

fostering a love for Christ and His Church.

ADMISSION:

Students should be at least 3 years old by September 30, 2013 to enroll.

All students must be potty trained.

Students are in multi-age classes with children ages 3-5.

regardless of age. This is standard in Montessori classrooms.

Feb 1 - General Public

A non-refundable $50 registration fee per student is due at the time of registration.

INSTRUCTION/DAILY SCHEDULE:

St. Philip Learning Center incorporates both traditional and Montessori methods of education, classifying us “Modified Montessori.” We believe the child learns best through hands-on experiences in the environment. We also believe children benefit from large group, teacher-led activities.

The children will have the opportunity to work in Practical Life, Cultural/Art, Language Arts, Math, Sensorial, and Catechesis areas each day. Music and art are incorporated daily.

OUR ENVIRONMENT:  THE ATRIUM:

The Atrium is a peaceful, prepared environment for the children to work. As Maria Montessori said, "Education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired by listening to words but by experiences in the environment."

In the Atrium, EVERYTHING is meant for the children to see, hear, touch, feel and experience. It is through interactions with the environment that the children grow and learn. Artwork is at eye level, and all materials that the child may need are within reach.  In addition, bright colors, florescent lighting, and unnecessary outside stimulation is eliminated to allow the children to focus and find their peace.

CATECHESIS:

St Philip Learning Center will follow lessons from the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program, a Catholic Montessori-based program that has been adopted by the Diocese of Nashville and is currently in use by the preschool CCD classes at St. Philip Church.  Each session will also meet for Religious Education at times with Fr. Bala or Fr. Tran in the church, chapel, or for children’s Mass.

LARGE GROUP TIME:

Large Group time is found in traditional preschools, providing teacher-directed activities. Group times last approx. 15-20 minutes. Group times include activities such as: calendar, weather, introducing new materials, lessons in grace & courtesy, saint of the month, songs, finger plays, read alouds.

EXTRAS:

We have celebrations for All Saints Day, Epiphany, Valentines, Easter, and an end of the year May Crowning and family picnic.
Our priests periodically stop in to visit, or go with the class to the church for religious education.

CALENDAR:

St. Philip Learning Center will follow the Williamson County Schools Calendar. School will begin the Tuesday after Labor Day, and continue until the 3rd week in May. St. Philip Learning Center will follow WCS for snow days and holidays.

CLASSROOM SETUP:

St. Philip Learning Center depends on the generosity of parish and community families to help stock our classrooms! If you have wooden trays or boxes, small area rugs, or lamps, please let us know or bring them to the Learning Center office, located in room 100 of the Education building.
