St. Philip Learning Center

St. Philip Learning Center is an affordable Catholic Montessori preschool and Homeschool Program located in the heart of downtown Franklin. While our catechesis lessons embrace the teachings of the Catholic Church, we warmly welcome all children. St. Philip Learning Center is a ministry of St. Philip Catholic Church, using the Montessori materials and methods to educate children. The children learn in a prepared environment, freely choosing their work while being guided by Montessori trained teachers.

Mission Statement

To provide a positive, nurturing environment where our students will grow in social, intellectual, and spiritual development while fostering a love for Christ and His Church.

Apply for 2024-25

Thank you for your interest in our program.

Families currently enrolled in SPLC are given first priority in the process. Next, we open our process to the parishioners of St Philip who are not current families in SPLC. If availability exists, we open the process to those outside of our parish community.

Our goal in each class is to achieve a balance of age, gender, and experience. This incorporates the optimum age balance for our multi-age classrooms. The date the application is received and the philosophical fit are considered to make the placement offer.

Details

Overview
The SPLC is home to a Catholic Montessori Program for ages 3- 18. Our mission is to assist parents in the development of the whole child: academically, fostering a love of learning; emotionally, inspiring self-confidence and independence; and spiritually, encouraging them to grow as children of God.

Primary Program
Our 3-6 year old program welcomes all children and uses the Montessori method of education and faith formation (Catechesis of the Good Shepherd). Children learn in a prepared and nurturing environment, freely choosing their work while being guided by Montessori trained teachers. (Our youngest students must be 3 years old by August 31, 2023 and potty trained.) Hours of operation: Monday thru Friday 9AM -12 PM

Homeschool Program
This program provides an opportunity for homeschool students, ages 6-12 years of age, to engage in a group setting. Students move forward at their own pace while also working with their peers in group learning activities. Montessori’s Great Lessons help to intrigue the child to look deeper into the world around them, specifically areas of history, science, math, language and faith formation/ Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. Hours of operation: Tuesday/Thursday 8:50-2:00 with morning only options from 8:50-11:50.

Erdkinder/ Adolescent Program
Montessori called her adolescent program, Erdkinder, which means children of the earth. It is a program that encourages adolescents to grow in knowledge through both text and hands-on learning as they prepare to move into adulthood. There are many ways this happens in our community as well as the world around them. The intellect is developed by reading, community discussion, research and through enriching interactions with art, music and nature. Individualized lessons, group interaction and opportunities for service happen throughout their days. Faith formation and Academic instruction are part of this program. Hours of operation: Tuesday/Thursday 8:50-2:00 with morning only options from 8:50-11:50.

Classroom
Students are in multi-age classes with children ages 3 – 6, 6 – 9, 9 – 12, 12 – 18. This allows the older children to model skills and behavior, and the younger children to learn from the older students. This also provides children the ability to work at their level, regardless of age.
